Pneumatic Retinopexy
Pneumatic retinopexy is an in-office procedure used to repair certain retinal detachments. After sealing the retinal tear with laser treatment or cryopexy, your retina specialist places a small air or gas bubble inside the eye. The bubble gently presses against the detached area, helping the retina return to its normal position and allowing it to heal.
Over the following weeks, the gas bubble gradually dissolves and is naturally absorbed by the eye. Your physician may provide specific positioning instructions to help keep the bubble in the correct position while your retina heals.
