August 2026 Image of the Month

Our featured image in August was taken by Hollie Sanders on the Topcon camera!
Hollie captured a photo of Infectious Scleritis, a rare but serious infection located on the sclera, the white outer layer of your eye. Most commonly, infectious scleritis can result from trauma, infections spreading from nearby tissues, or even after surgery is performed.
Symptoms may include:
- Severe eye pain
- Redness
- Tenderness
- Edema (swelling)
- Decreased vision
- Discharge
When scleral thinning occurs with pain, redness, discharge, or reduced vision, particularly after surgery or an injury, it needs immediate evaluation by an ophthalmologist, because infectious scleritis can require urgent treatment.
