January Image of the Month

Our featured image in January was captured by Amy Owen on our OPTOS camera!
This is an image of a Retinal Detachment with multiple breaks. A retinal detachment occurs when the retina separates from the back wall of the eye. The typical symptoms of a retinal detachment include floaters, flashing lights, and a shadow or curtain in the peripheral (noncentral) vision that can be stationary (non-moving) or progress toward, and involve, the center of vision. In other cases of a retinal detachment, patients may not be aware of any changes in their vision. The severity of the symptoms is often related to the extent of the detachment.
If you detect you have a retinal detachment, you will need to be seen by a retinal specialist immediately to schedule an exam and treatment. Treatments for tears and detachments may consist of laser, cryotherapy, surgical repair, or a combination of these.
